The Beginning

“All the Church for all the World”

The Pontifical Missionary Union was founded by Rev. Fr. Paolo Manna in Italy in 1916.

Its purpose was to stimulate missionary awareness among priests and religious and help those entrusted with pastoral leadership understand their responsibility towards the Church's mission.

Missionary formation, spirituality and animation therefore stand at the centre of the Missionary Union.

Our Mission in Sri Lanka

Strengthening missionary formation

In Sri Lanka, missionary formation and coordination involve the PMS National Office, diocesan directors, clergy, religious and those who animate missionary life within local communities.

The handbook records National Office coordination of formation initiatives, including training connected with clergy, religious, diocesan structures and missionary Animators.

Through such formation and cooperation, missionary awareness can pass from those entrusted with leadership into parishes, families, children and the wider community of faith.
